Classes 11 & 12 Help Reclaim Scottish Land

Classes 11 and 12 are volunteering on Tuesday, planting trees, coppicing willows (for constructing a fence) and forestry work.
The purpose of the visit is to volunteer planting trees and doing other forestry activities with Malcolm Le Maistre who has been  reclaiming a neglected bit of land near Caldercruix near Airdrie, for the last 10 years, re-establishing an original Scottish ecosystem. They will hear also from a forager about plants and berries growing in the wild that are edible.
Packed with waterproof boots (for the boggy places) and garden gloves, this is intended to be an ongoing termly project involving the various Classes in the Upper School, raising environmental awareness and doing a little towards the effects of climate change.
The pupils will be doing tree planting, coppicing willows (for constructing a fence) and forestry work. They will hear also from a forager about plants and berries growing in the wild that are edible.
The pupils will be travelling by an environmentally-friendly coach, with Class 11 Guardian and veteran gardener, Foppe Jellema as well as Class Guardians for the attending Classes.

This trip will be followed up by further outings.
