Silver Duke of Edinburgh pupil appealing for bags of love
26th March, 2019
Inez has been volunteering once a week at the St Catherine’s Convent, preparing and serving food for the homeless. Seeing the need first-hand, this Class 12 pupil is asking for people to keep bringing in their spare sleeping bags to pass on to those living rough on the streets of Edinburgh.
The convent supports over 200 people a day with a cooked breakfast and evening meal without a penny of government funding. This amazing effort is always in need of additional volunteer support, and donations of money, clothes and practical items such as sleeping bags.
Working towards her Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, which involves from 6-12 months of voluntary work to complete, Inez says that she finds the experience good fun and rewarding as there is a mixture of people from the local community.
As just one of the Edinburgh Steiner School pupils undertaking the DofE programme this year, Inez has engaged in activities such as basketball, ballroom dancing, and a self-planned, self-led expedition.
Many of our teenage pupils take part in the DofE Award programme, which has been offered to pupils 14+ for a number of years. We commend Inez and all her fellow DofE participants for getting involved with new skills and experiences.
