Mark Beever

Mark Beever discovered early in his education that storytelling and engaging people were at the core of his work – a passion that developed through his degrees in Fine Art at Bristol and Glasgow and led him into publishing, where he grew as a designer, editor, and storyteller. A pivotal collaboration with designer Bruce Mau on a project called ‘Massive Change’ opened Mark’s eyes to the capacity of design to change the world.

Since then, Mark has spent his career guiding organisations and brands through ideas that enable them to connect deeply with their audiences. From high-energy start-ups to complex global enterprises, Mark had the privilege of leading multidisciplinary creative teams, in settings ranging from design studios to direct client collaborations to his own business, Expanding Circle Studio.

Whether designing a brand activation,  immersive visitor destination, orchestrating public consultation events, or launching a digital product, every project is about creating meaningful connections with and for people.

Mark, a parent of the School, joined the Board of Trustees in August 2024.

As a family we’ve always been driven to find education which can take on the individual drive of each child, where their journey of discovery develops their innate potential. So when our child joined Steiner, we knew this was more than just a school – it was a place where creativity and a holistic approach to learning are not just encouraged but are core to the nurturing of each individual here.

As the journey continues, we witness how this unique environment fosters growth, not just academically but inspiring and grounding each child, preparing them to play their part in the world.

In an era defined by rapid change, increasingly complex challenges and so many unknowns, Mark feels the need for lateral, creative thinkers – those who dare to venture beyond traditional boundaries -has never been more in demand. In this context, he believes, Edinburgh Steiner School is not just relevant; it is vital.

It is a beacon where depth of understanding is cultivated, and significantly where students are not merely prepared for the world—they are prepared to change it.

Mark sees his Trustee role as a collaborator, contributing his experience to help everyone play their part in shaping the future of ESS.

Together with parents, carers, teachers and pupils, we can continue to grow this community, ensuring it remains a place where everyone feels part of a living story, one that is always expanding, always enriching, and always moving forward.
