Lucila Machado
Steiner education is especially relevant to the 21st Century. Daily life is fragmented and unsupportive of children and their development. Steiner education is based on child development and therefore always relevant. It educates the child’s mind and body and opens the mind to the possibility of spiritual development. I wholeheartedly support Steiner education and feel so happy to have been able to send my two children to the school.
Lucila studied Law at University and due to the political climate in Brazil, gave up being a lawyer and became a Primary Teacher. This change led her to a second degree in Language and Literature. Once in the UK, after a long journey to recognise her teaching qualifications, Lucila was finally granted GTSE qualifications. When she came to Edinburgh she did the Edinburgh Steiner Teaching Course and became a Kindergarten Teacher.
After some years Lucila left the Kindergarten to study Human Biography and Development at Emerson College. After she qualified as a Biographical Counsellor Lucila did a Foundation Course in Systemic Therapy. She also attended the Mental Health Seminar and did the Post Graduate course in Anthroposophical Psychotherapy. Today Lucila works as a Psychotherapist in private practice.
I taught at the Edinburgh Steiner School for 12 years and also helped to coordinate the Kindergarten for a while after I left. I nurture a deep love for the school. My years teaching here were wonderful. I met not only a good environment to work in, but a school for my children, friends for life and a community.
Lucila joined the Board of Trustees in September 2024.
I can offer a deep knowledge of Steiner education and the principles that guide and inform it. I have studied not only Steiner education, but also Anthroposophy and spiritual science. I feel able to uphold these principles and help to understand and support the Early Years at school.
