Christian Maclean
Born in Edinburgh in 1950, Christian went to the Edinburgh Steiner School from Kindergarten to Class 12.
Christian’s career has seen him work in Switzerland (statistical analysis and astronomy), Germany, South Africa, Israel (as carer in home for children with special needs) as well as studying theology. In the 1970s he briefly taught German, maths and class teaching at the Edinburgh Steiner School. He built Floris Books up from a tiny publisher to a significant one, both in Scotland and as a worldwide Steiner-related publisher; retiring from management of Floris Books in 2011, but still involved editorially and at Board level.
Married, our three children went to the Edinburgh School (together with umpteen nephews and nieces).
I have seen the School from many aspects over many years. I have found the all-round education in so many disciplines has been a help in my work, as well as giving the confidence to tackle (almost) any task.
Christain has been a trustee of the Edinburgh Steiner School many years ago for about 18 years, including being Chair; rejoining in September 2024. He has served on various boards in Britain, Germany and the Netherlands related either to the book trade or to Steiner-related organisations.
I hope that my knowledge of the background of Steiner Waldorf education together with my experience of finances of small organisations and businesses will be of help as a trustee.
