Class 9 Pupils Make Literary Donation to Homeless
Pupils from Class 9 handed over boxes and boxes of books on Friday to Streetreads, an Edinburgh-based charity .
“We really are grateful for your donations. They make such a difference to the people that we help”, says Emma Jardine, who piled over a hundred books into the boot of her car ahead of the weekend.
“We ask that the books are in good condition, so that it equates to a gift you’d give a friend or relative – it’s not a passive act of charity to get rid of books you no longer need – it’s much more than that” Continued Emma.
“The ethos of Streetreads is that books are a place of solace in a hard world. They can offer escapism for a few hours, but as importantly, the gift of a book shows that someone cares about them and understands that reading means as much to them as it does to anyone else.
Our readers enjoy a wide range of genres from fantasy to the classics, and we try hard to find them books which are tailored to their individual reading tastes/needs. That can even mean books in foreign languages or EasyRead books for those with lower levels of literacy – again, as a small act of kindness and to remind them that someone is thinking of them. It’s as simple as that.”
