Classes 8 – 12 Theatre Trip: Merchant of Venice

As part of the school’s PSHE offering looking at diversity, inclusion and equality, we have organised for Classes 8 through to 12 to see Arin Arbus’ acclaimed production of ‘The Merchant of Venice‘ starring John Douglas Thompson.

This New York production by Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) is part of a production exchange with the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh.

This complex play explores issues of racial and religious prejudice, gender inequalities and justice which are part of the PSHE curriculum in Class 8 and the Upper School.

The trip will be informed by targeted lessons to contextualise and discuss those themes in advance of, and after, the performance.

As this theatre trip is part of the curriculum and takes place in school time all pupils are expected to attend.

We have booked tickets for Wednesday 5th February starting at 2.30pm. The show running time is approximately 2hrs 40 minutes, plus a 20 minute interval. The performance will therefore end around 5.30pm. Further details on the running order of the day will follow in January.

Deadline for obtaining a ticket: 10am, Tuesday 17th December, 2024
