Its fun, its food, it helps support the Class who have been working hard to fund the trip that they have been looking forward to for the last eight years”, adds Class 8 Teacher, Tiffany Kopp.

Each ESS pupil will be staying with a family of a pupil who attends the Rudolf Steiner Schule Coburg, while their Class 8 will simultaneously visit Edinburgh, become part of our school community and stay with families with a connection to ESS*, including Class 8.

Our pupils will do the same, continuing to go to school, following a timetable delivered in German, as well as soaking up the culture and way of life in the town of Coburg.
Class 8 Teacher, Tiffany Kopp, who has taken two Class 8s on an exchange previously, visited Coburg and the Waldorf school in 2023 to meet the host families.
An exchange with a French or German speaking Waldorf school near the end of the academic year has long been an integral part of the Edinburgh Steiner School curriculum in the transitional year of Class 8, where pupils are aged 13 and 14.
Both languages are taught in the School from Class 1.
Before they head off on their School Trip, however, the pupils are busy organising their Germany-themed fundraising event (15th March), finishing their Independent Projects which they will exhibit on the first Friday of the Summer Term  in the School Hall (19th April), and rehearsing their Class 8 play ‘One Stop Light Town’.
Both their projects and play will be gifted to visiting alumni at the upcoming Founder’s Day Spring Fair onSaturday 11th May, marking the School’s 85th year since it was founded on 2nd May, 1939.

* HOST FAMILIES STILL NEEDED FOR COBURG EXCHANGE PUPILS

3rd – 23rd June, 2024.

Please contact Class 8 Teacher, Tiffany Kopp if you can offer a place. Please see Ms Kopp’s letter sent out to ESS families in November for more details.
