Exam Results 2023

Congratulations to those Upper School pupils who received exam results on Tuesday 8th August.

Edinburgh Steiner School’s Higher exam results in 2023 were very strong with particularly successful performances in the departments of English, sciences and languages.

At Higher level, half of all Higher results (48%) were grade ‘A’ while the combined percentage of ‘A’ and ‘B’ grade results was 71%, which is historically high and significantly higher than last year. Several pupils received the coveted string of ‘straight As’ across all of their subjects. This represents a real demonstration of excellence on the part of the pupils and the School. Although the overall pass rate (A-C) for Edinburgh Steiner School (ESS) Higher results was lower than last year (78.8%), this is reflective of a small decrease in the national pass rate which dropped to 77.1%.

The ESS pass rate (A-C) for National 5 (for exam courses sat mostly by pupils in Classes 10 and 11) rose to 93% (against 88% in 2022). This was achieved despite a decrease in the national pass rate, which dropped to 78.8% (down from 80.8% in 2022). ESS made a record number of presentations (100) at National 5 this year, 85% of which were graded ‘A’ or ‘B’.

Advanced Higher results (Art & Design and Maths) were outstanding, with all candidates achieving an ‘A’ grade.

Of the eight presentations for National 4, all candidates passed.

These results are a well-deserved reward for all the hard work and commitment demonstrated by ESS pupils and their teachers.
