Advanced Higher Art Exhibition Open
May 16 2023
Advanced Higher Art Exhibition in School Hall until Wednesday for pupils, parents and pastoral teachers to visit. More Advanced Highers proposed next academic year across the disciplines.
It is the time of year again when the toils of our talented art pupils can be celebrated and they themselves can breathe a sigh of relief that the hard work is over. May sees the showcasing of the Class 12 Advanced Higher Art Projects in the School Hall, for the whole school and parents to view.
The School has a long history of excellent results in Advanced Higher Art, led by Penny Reid for more than three decades, with many pupils going on to further education in the subject after school. Last year, art pieces by two Edinburgh Steiner pupils were selected to be exhibited as part of the SQA Art & Design Exhibition (Read: Art exam pupils to be be in SQA exhibition).
The ratio of pupils to teacher in exam subjects is typically 8:1 in ESS. Art is currently the only subject taught at Advanced Higher, however following a review of the exams programme by a mandate group of teachers, the final report presented to the PTA last month proposes to add more Advanced Highers across the spectrum of humanities, sciences and creative arts. A consultation with all parents will soon follow.
This year just three pupils chose to take art at Advanced Higher. The work is wonderful.
