View ESS Exam Pupils’ Art Virtually

A unique aspect of the Steiner curriculum is the integration of the arts into all academic disciplines throughout the education, encouraging the pupils’ emotional engagement with their learning, as well as developing their imagination and freedom of thinking, instilling aesthetic appreciation.

14 pupils decided to continue this discipline as an exam subject this academic year, either at GCSE or Advanced Higher; taught by ‘an exciting artist of true integrity’ (Alison Auldjo, Director of the Union Gallery, The Herald) and long time Steiner Waldorf teacher, Penny Reid.

Six of the seven Advanced Higher pupils are going on to further study in the Arts. Whilst one is taking a gap year, five have a place at Glasgow School of Art (Fashion / Foundation), Duncan of Jordanstone Art School at Dundee University and Photography at Bristol University.

Pupils exhibited their work to peers and parents in the School Hall over 14th – 18th June. Ten pieces from an extensive portfolio were then chosen for Edinburgh Steiner School’s first online art exhibition.
