Edinburgh Steiner School is seeking an inspiring and experienced Head of School to guide one of the UK's flagship Steiner Waldorf schools into the next phase of development, providing leadership across pedagogy, operations, finance and community life. 

ABOUT US

Our campus in south Edinburgh educates around 300 pupils aged 2–18. We are committed to nurturing free-thinking, responsible young people through an education grounded in Rudolf Steiner’s insights into child development.

THE ROLE

This is our most senior executive position, providing leadership across pedagogy, operations, finance and community life. Working closely with the Board of Trustees and College of Teachers, you will:

 

  • Shape the school’s strategic direction and long-term development
  • Uphold and steward the Steiner Waldorf ethos across all aspects of school life
  • Lead the Senior Management Team, including the Education Manager, Operations Manager and Bursar
  • Represent the school to families, regulators and the wider Waldorf movement
  • Oversee curriculum quality, safeguarding and financial sustainability

 

A light teaching commitment will keep you connected to the everyday life of the school.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Substantial senior leadership experience in education
  • Strong knowledge of Steiner Waldorf education and anthroposophy
  • GTCS registration (or eligibility to obtain it)
  • Commitment to the values and ethos of the school
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Experience managing significant budgets and multi-disciplinary teams
