Edinburgh Steiner School has a vacancy for a School Bursar. The School is set on a green campus in Merchiston with a school roll of 250 pupils aged between two and eighteen years of age, and has a strong sense of community.

 

This Bursar is required to perform at a strategic and operational level to ensure the School can best use its resources to meet its educational and pastoral aims. They will have responsibility for finance along with many other non- academic matters and will be required to supervise and direct other functions to ensure the effective and efficient operation of support services. The Bursar should take a professional interest in the teaching side of the School, not only because of the financial implications that educational change can bring, but also because they are to be fully engaged in and committed to our success.

 

The role of Bursar would benefit from the following skills, qualifications and experience. The list below has not at this time been categorised into Essential and Desirable categories in recognition of the fact that due to the wide scope of a Bursar’s role, individuals may come from a variety of backgrounds and the exact requirements may vary depending on the mix of skills and experience already available within the School at the time of selection.

  • Education to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience with Xero and Sage Payroll
  • Professional qualification in finance or business management e.g. Accountancy qualification (CCAB accredited) and/or MBA or similar
  • Understanding of UK charity finance, HMRC rules, VAT, and audit processes.
  • Financial acumen and commercial awareness
  • Strong operational, HR and financial experience
  • Experience of managing, leading and motivating successful and diverse teams
  • An understanding of school and corporate governance
  • An understanding of the legislative aspects of school leadership and management
  • Experience of working in an educational environment

The post carries a salary of £46,000.00 - £50,000.00 pa, dependant on experience.
