We’re excited to share the launch of the Edinburgh Steiner School Smartphone Free Childhood project

The Smartphone-free Childhood (SFC) is an inclusive and growing parent-led initiative, directly supported by the School, exploring how we can approach smartphones thoughtfully as our children get older.

"The UK-wide movement offers a simple Parent Pact that encourages families to delay smartphones until at least 14 and social media until 16," says parent and SFC project member, Mark Beever, who is also on the PTA Committee. "It’s completely free, and a key benefit is the support that comes with it – SFC sends genuinely useful guidance, resources and reassurance, and by signing you’ll be joining other parents at our school who want to navigate these challenges (and opportunities!) together. We believe Edinburgh Steiner School can be a leader in this movement.

Phone prison: mobile phones are put away on campus from morning until the end of the school day.

As more ESS families sign up, we’ll begin hosting informal get-togethers, talks and discussions so we can share experiences and support one another in a warm, open way.

P.S. If you're considering a phone for Christmas, this website has a great list of child-friendly alternatives worth checking out."
