The ESS U15 Boys Basketball team had another great victory on Friday, winning 67-30 against Lasswade High School. The team recently beat Broughton High School 48 – 12.

Coach George Palmer

reports, "This week’s cup game saw the boys travel to Lasswade High School”...

“After a nervy start, Archie and Noah led the way both scoring over 10p as the boys ran out to a 36-14 lead at the end of the first half. The second half was a real team effort with Armin and Simon both going on scoring streaks. Richard was a strong defensive and rebounding presence throughout the game also chipping in with 8 points. The game finished 67 – 30 as we picked up our second win in the Scottish Cup. This game was a real team effort with 3 players ending up in double figures for points and 3 more with 8 or 9 each.

Coach George added,

"I’m very proud of how we moved the ball and played offense in the second half with lots of scores leading directly from passes and our five-out movement offense.

More rebounding and defensive work is required in training before a competitive game against Dunbar on the 12th of December.”

Congratulations to Class 8 pupils Evie, Maeve, Naomi, and Kayla (above), who have been successful in gaining places on the Weir-Wyse Programme, run by the University of Strathclyde, in early 2025. This competitive programme offers participants a two-day engagement with the university, where they will hear from staff at the University and colleagues from the Weir Group who will provide insight into studying and working in the field of engineering. They will also take part in practical activities run by University of Strathclyde staff and engineers.

Applications for this are competitive and the feedback the School had is that this year’s cohort of applicants was of an especially high standard. With a limited number of places for the whole of Scotland, we’re thrilled that four of ours are going to be there. Kirsty MacDonald-Russell, who leads the school’s Careers provision, said:
